Why is it important to be updating your software regularly?

Video Transcript:
"Hey guys. Today let's chat a little bit about keeping your software up to date.
"Hackers are always looking for vulnerabilities. Vulnerabilities come about because software was written and inadvertently a backdoor, some execution that shouldn't be there is in the application.
"What happens is a hacker can connect or send code to that application causing it to not function the way it's supposed to, giving them either full control of your machine, or the ability to put in a keystroke logger to get your password - all kinds of things that really aren't good.
"What you want to do is make sure that you have a good software patch policy and management in place. What that is is you want to make sure Java, Adobe, Firefox, Chrome - anything you're using is being updated.
"You should always be of course updating your operating system. Keep those security patches and updates running, but this goes beyond that because that's pretty typical that that gets done. Microsoft tries to make you do it with their policies.
"But all that ancillary software that you're running, you need to constantly be updating it to keep the bad guys out.
"That's it for today. Talk to you next week."
